Our Sutherlin Valley Online Academy Director was honored with the President's Award at the Sutherlin First Citizen Banquet. Sue works tirelessly on behalf of our online students; we are thankful to have her. Not only does Sue make things happen for SVOA, but she is also instrumental in the success of many Sutherlin civic and community events. She's a ray of sunshine and the energizer bunny wrapped up in one amazing lady! Congratulations Sue!

In the 2019 Oregon Legislative Session, the legislators passed House Bill 3427, Student Success Act, and it was signed into law on May 20, 2019. This law aims to correct three decades of under investing in our schools and our children and includes sweeping provisions for new and improved services for children and families. Part of this Student Success Act is the Student Investment Account (SIA). The SIA is a non-competitive grant program which, when fully implemented, represents an investment of close to $500 million going directly to Oregon school districts and eligible charter schools. The purpose of the Student Investment Account is to meet students’ mental and behavioral health needs, increase academic achievement, and reduce academic disparities for historically underserved students. We would like your input on how to best utilize these funds in order to best serve the students and families in our community. Good evening Parents, Today (January 18, 2021) the Douglas Public Health Network informed us of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case at East Primary School. We are working closely with the Douglas Public Health Network to respond to this news and protect the health of our staff, students and community. We have begun the process of notifying parents of the children in the cohort affected, asking them to quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. Out of an abundance of caution, we will be keeping all first grade students at home for Tuesday the 19th. (Not all first grade students are quarantined) In-person instruction will resume for the students and staff who are not in first grade classrooms. We will continue to follow and maintain the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education guidelines; namely practicing handwashing, physical distancing to the degree we can, requiring people wear masks inside the building, and upholding cleaning and disinfecting protocols. We understand families are concerned. We will keep families and the school community updated with any new information as it becomes available, while meeting the requirements to honor everyone's right to privacy. If you have concerns or questions about COVID-19, please call the Douglas Public Health Network hotline at 541-464-6550, seven days a week between 8 am - 5:00 pm. Terry Prestianni, Superintendent

1/5/2020 Good afternoon Sutherlin Students, Staff and Families, I am happy to announce that Sutherlin School District will be returning to in-person instruction thanks to improved countywide metrics as well as changes from the State. Grades PK-5 will return on Monday January 11th and secondary students grades 6-12 will return on Tuesday January 19th. Grades 6-12 will return on the A/B schedule as prior to Thanksgiving. If your student was enrolled in comprehensive distance learning prior to Thanksgiving break, they will remain in distance learning. Students who were attending school in-person prior to Thanksgiving break will return to school in-person on the above-mentioned dates. Home meal deliveries will continue for distance learning students; Please remember to order through SchoolPay. In-person students will have meals served at school, but still need to order. We thank you for your patience over the past few weeks, and we look forward to seeing more students on campus. Terry Prestianni, Superintendent

November 24, 2020 Dear Sutherlin School District Staff and Families, Sutherlin School District is taking steps to ensure the safety of all students and staff. A student at Sutherlin Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19, but has not been in school since last week. We are working closely with the Douglas Public Health Network to respond to this news and protect the health of our community. Sutherlin Middle School is canceling all on-site classes for Wednesday November 25th due to lack of coverage for quarantined staff. All other Sutherlin Schools will continue with classes as planned. We have begun notifying staff and parents of the children in the cohort that a student tested positive, asking them to quarantine and monitor for symptoms. We’re providing quarantine guidance and informing parents of exposed children that someone from the DPHN will be in daily telephone contact to provide additional monitoring. All schools in Sutherlin School District will return to Comprehensive Distance Learning Monday, November 30. We encourage our community to follow and maintain the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education guidelines; namely handwashing, staying home when sick, physical distancing, mask wearing and practicing disinfecting protocols. We understand families are concerned and our hearts go out to everyone directly affected. Sincerely, Terry Prestianni, Sutherlin School District Superintendent
