Congratulations to our Symphonic Band! They won their league band festival last month and are headed to the state band championships at OSU tomorrow. At the 1A/2A/3A level, MS students are allowed to compete in the HS bands. We have six SMS students competing with the Symphonic Band tomorrow: Adon Shyrer (tuba) Kyle Hoskins (baritone) Oliver Crocker (alto sax) Khloe Bochart (percussion) Makylie Broomand (percussion) Bella Christoson (percussion) Please congratulate these students when you get the chance. They are playing extremely difficult music and working at a very high level while they are doing it. They are hardworking, reliable band members with a great, can-do attitude, and these six have truly helped to level up our band. We couldn’t have done it without them. Way to go, Bulldogs!

Congratulations to our fabulous Concert Band! Concert Band is made up of 2nd and 3rd year players. Last week our group attended District 10’s Middle School Band Festival and played a wonderful set of challenging music including Washington Post March, Shenandoah, and Where the Sun Breaks Through the Mist. The kids were a bit nervous but still delivered a solid performance earning them top scores of the day! Here is a photo of the students working with one of their guest clinicians after their performance. Way to go Bulldogs!!! You are making us proud!

Shoutout to Mrs. Tillett’s Leadership 2 Class! This past weekend, our incredible student leaders attended the OASC Leadership Conference in Seaside — and we’re proud to share that our leadership program earned Gold Status recognition! This award reflects a year of hard work, including volunteer service, celebrating staff and students, and building connections across our school and community. Amazing work, students — and a big thank-you to Mrs. Tillett for your inspiring leadership!

Every year, Mrs. Quinn Gary, our dedicated 8th-grade language arts teacher, leads her students through a powerful and meaningful unit on the Holocaust. Through literature written by survivors—from children’s books to young adult novels—students gain a deeper understanding of history and the diverse experiences of those who lived through this unimaginable time. The unit culminates in a research project where students honor the life of an individual affected by the Holocaust by creating a butterfly that symbolizes their story. Mrs. Gary’s classroom transforms into a vibrant, moving tribute—filled with color, compassion, and butterflies that sway gently in the breeze, each one telling a story of resilience, loss, and hope. Thank you, Mrs. Gary, for the thoughtful and lasting impact you make on your students.

Lego Robotics Challenge Alert! This week in Lego Robotics, taught by Mr. Buier, students tackled an exciting twist: build and code a robot that moves forward without using any wheels! With creativity and engineering skills in full gear, students rose to the challenge—designing clever, wheel-less machines that could still move with precision. From waddling walkers to sliding bots, they proved that innovation has no limits! Great job, young engineers
