Dear Sutherlin School District Families,

It has been a great start to the school year across Sutherlin School District! We appreciate the support and partnership of our families as we begin another successful year.

As we continue into the school year, we want to share important information about the safety systems and procedures we have in place throughout our district to help keep our students, staff, and school community safe.

Attached are the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) family handouts, which provide information about how schools respond to emergencies and other potential safety concerns.

While each school may approach safety training a little differently based on the age and developmental needs of its students, our protocols and expectations are consistent across the district. We want safety instruction to be meaningful, understandable, and age appropriate, whether we are working with our youngest students or our high school students.

Throughout the school year, our schools will conduct a variety of safety drills and trainings so students and staff have opportunities to practice our procedures. We strongly encourage families to talk with their children about the drills and safety processes they participate in at school. These conversations at home can help reinforce the importance of being prepared, listening to instructions, and taking safety procedures seriously.

We also want to reinforce a simple but critically important message throughout our community: If you see something, say something. We encourage our students, parents, staff, and community members to speak up when they see or hear something that causes concern. Keeping our schools safe is a shared responsibility, and communication is an important part of that effort.

The safety of our students and staff remains one of our highest priorities. Our goal is for students, staff, families, and community members to have a common understanding of our safety procedures and to know how to respond should an incident occur.

Please review the attached materials and have conversations with your child about what they are learning and practicing at school. If you have questions about safety drills, training, or procedures, please reach out directly to your student's school.

🎒 WELCOME BACK, SUTHERLIN STUDENTS!

On Monday, August 31, we are excited to welcome back our 1st-, 2nd-, 3rd-, 6th-, and 9th-grade students!

Kindergarten will also begin with a staggered schedule. Kindergarten families should follow the attendance schedule provided by their school.

Our phased start gives students entering new grades and campuses time to meet their teachers, learn school routines, and become comfortable in their surroundings before all students return.
