Student Groups

Sutherlin Middle School is excited to announce opportunities for students to get involved in student clubs this fall! Clubs are a great way to make new friends, develop skills, and contribute to our school’s culture of belonging and inclusivity.

This year, we are starting with the following student groups:

  • Campus Life Club - A student-led club focusing on Christian student life, led by Brian Vaughn, a former Sutherlin teacher and alumni. Meetings will be held 7:15-7:45 am (before school) every Thursday starting September 18.

  • LGBTQIA+ Club – Name to be determined (Rainbow Club, GSA, or another option). This group will be led by Kristen Yohn from Douglas ESD and will meet during ELTs and lunches every Thursday starting September 18.

  • Diversity Club – The middle school equivalent of the high school’s Students of Color Affinity Club. This group will be led by Kenny Wong from Douglas ESD and will meet at lunch every Wednesday starting September 17.

Other student clubs are currently being developed and will be announced soon. For example, an ELT/lunch time Gaming Club and an after-school Drama Club, both led by Mrs. Bassler, are under consideration. We encourage all students to get involved!

Stay tuned for updates as more student groups are finalized.
