Fun assembly at East today! We celebrated our Kindergarten students of the month AND we welcomed Officer Fox as our new SRO. Thank you, Officer Fox, for playing with us and keeping us safe! We are so excited to have you as a part of our learning community.

January was a busy month for field trips! Our kindergarteners got to walk to the high school to get plants started for the garden and our first and second graders went to Roseburg High School to watch a literacy play. Great job, Bullpups, representing our school with care and respect.

We want to share an important update with our school community. Our SRO, Officer Jake McGarvey, will be leaving his role as School Resource Officer after being promoted to Sergeant with the Sutherlin Police Department. This is an exciting and well-deserved next step for him, and we could not be prouder.
Officer McGarvey has been deeply loved by our students and staff. He could always be found building relationships, offering support, and being a steady, friendly presence in our schools. We are grateful for his calm guidance during difficult moments, his wisdom in supporting students and families, and his playful sense of humor that made our buildings feel more welcoming. He will truly be missed—though we suspect our break room snacks might start lasting a little longer. 😉
At the same time, we are excited to welcome Officer Seth Fox as our new School Resource Officer, starting Monday. Officer Fox has served with the Sutherlin Police Department for seven years, holds an advanced police certification, and is a trained forensic interviewer. He lives and works in Sutherlin, has children in our district, and is committed to our community. When he’s not working, he enjoys video games, Dungeons & Dragons, fantasy books, and is even training for the Tri-Cities 70.3 Ironman Triathlon!

Mrs. McCormick's Second Grade Class spent some time with Robert Shuey, a local veteran, asking questions and learning more about what service means. They sang a song, shared some important words and ideas, and then celebrated with cookies. Thank you, Mrs. McCormick, for bringing learning to life for your students and for teaching them about integrity and commitment.
There was a strong police presence at East today -- in all the best ways! The kids were visited by Trooper Randall and Chessa the Police Dog. It was a fun assembly and, most importantly, everyone got to pet her.

Ready! for Kindergarten is a series of 3 classes offered to parents of children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2026 at Sutherlin East Primary School. It is designed to help parents prepare their child for kindergarten.
It is an interactive class, and families will take home many hands-on activities and manipulatives to use with their child during the learning process. The series of classes will be held 3 times this year in the evenings from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at East Primary School. Childcare and dinner will be provided.
There will also be giveaways and prizes! If you are interested in attending all three classes, please follow the link below. We will contact you with more details as the first class in January approaches.

The vaccine exemption deadline is February 25, 2026.
Students who do not have up-to-date immunizations or a completed nonmedical exemption form on file will be excluded from school and may not return until the requirement is completed.
💉 Where can you obtain immunizations?
✔️ Contact your child’s medical provider. This is also a great opportunity to schedule a well-child check if one is needed.
✔️ If your medical provider is unavailable, immunizations are available at Aviva Health.

✔️ Pharmacies can immunize children 7 years and older without a prescription, or younger children with a prescription.
