Just a friendly reminder: There is no school starting tomorrow for students at East and West Nov. 17-Nov. 24 . Tomorrow is an in-service day for teachers to prepare for conferences. We look forward to seeing you all at conferences next week Monday, Nov 20-Wednesday Nov 22, and wish you a restful Thanksgiving break.

Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, was initially set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In 1938, through an act of Congress, November 11th was made a legal holiday. Today, we honor all who served in our armed forces and say thank you.

The Sutherlin Firefighter’s Association, Sutherlin School District, and Sutherlin Lions Club Christmas Assistance Program is open and taking applications. Printed applications are available at all the schools and the district office. Submission of the application does not guarantee acceptance into the SFFA Christmas Assistance Program. The deadline is November 27, 2023, by 5 p.m. Turn this form in to the Sutherlin Fire Department or email this form to jaklynn.callas@ci.sutherlin.or.us Applications will be reviewed on 11/28-11/30, and phone calls or emails will be completed in the same week. If we do not hear back from you by 5 p.m. on December 1, 2023, your application will be removed for 2023. Friday, November 10th, is Veterans Day. All Sutherlin Schools will be closed to observe the holiday.

October is Bully Prevention month, thank you, Officer McGarvey for sharing with our students the difference between bugging and bullying, who to go to for help and for sharing the pledge, at Fridays class assembly's.

On October 9th from 5:30-7, we will launch our monthly Conscious Discipline at Home series. This evening course will help parents/caregivers learn evidence-based strategies around setting limits respectfully, connecting with your children, emotional regulation, and helping your children learn from their mistakes. We had some special guests visit our school today! The Sutherlin High School football team came and visited our second grade classrooms during recess time. They answered questions, played games and some participated in a Go Noodle dance in one classroom. Go Bulldogs!! 🏈

We need to add to our current list of available instructional assistant substitutes. We call people on our sub list to fill in when our regular IAs are out. This is a flexible opportunity to work when available and support our schools. If interested, you can apply at the school district office at 531 East Central.
